The original O'Neill designs were on the order of Japanese-high-speed-train which the US can't even sell terrestrially. I actually think spinning Lunavators are more workable at the moment.QuantumGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17336493213317053535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28823501.post-70442852353210369092010-07-14T06:54:31.015+10:002010-07-14T06:54:31.015+10:00I guess the take-home of the article is that there...I guess the take-home of the article is that there are things we value enough to import from space.
Also, if a mass driver were constructed, we could be talking about a gift that keeps on giving.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06779648966034609633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28823501.post-28076006519390805922010-07-13T08:47:28.339+10:002010-07-13T08:47:28.339+10:00Once upon a time I did not believe that Space Sola...Once upon a time I did not believe that Space Solar Power would work. Now I think the idea has significant potential.

The only thing I have not resolved in my mind is what happens when any object plows thru a section of solar panel? Does anyone know?

Also, has anyone done any study regarding the reduction of sunlight hitting the earth? Is it significant?

What about putting the panels closer to the Sun a la Asimov?Mikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28823501.post-26949846617142919982010-07-12T12:33:28.023+10:002010-07-12T12:33:28.023+10:00Well, if you look at that same article I linked to...Well, if you look at that same article I linked to, he specifically says he thinks Space Solar Power is unworkable.

But there are plenty of people floating around who believe in it and are getting venture capital interest.QuantumGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17336493213317053535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28823501.post-7471670823393742532010-07-12T12:29:01.816+10:002010-07-12T12:29:01.816+10:00Trent, add this up: Heavy lift rockets (SpaceX) +...Trent, add this up: Heavy lift rockets (SpaceX) + Boosted electric demands and energy conversion expertise (Tesla Motors) + Solar panel and electrical expertise (Solar City) = ?????

Is Musk in stealth mode building a Space Based Solar Energy system?

Movhael laineMichael Lainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13475427935645781794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28823501.post-46371676676992272122010-07-12T12:14:59.715+10:002010-07-12T12:14:59.715+10:00Now if only we could grow coca in space...Now if only we could grow coca in space...Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01056130310441392440noreply@blogger.com
